Treatment Industry Experts Give Presentations on Addiction
Southern California has proven to be a hub of expertise for the advancement of addiction treatment. Not only have some of the most successful rehab programs sprung up here, but the 12-Step community has found a fertile location that supports a dense network of Alcoholics Anonymous clubs and meetings. Narcotics Anonymous, the offshoot of Alcoholics Anonymous that was created for the benefit of drug addicted individuals in recovery, was founded in Los Angeles. Also, there is a vast array of other support groups in the Orange County area alone targeting specific behaviors and addictions, including Marijuana Anonymous (MA), Overeaters Anonymous (OA) and Eating Disorders Anonymous for anorexia and bulimia.
All of this focus on recovery in the area allows our drug and alcohol treatment facilities
access to industry leaders who provide lectures and presentations for the benefit of our staff and greater network. Here are a few of the speakers who lecture at our regular networking and educational events:
Jerry Brown, Psy.D., MFT
Dr. Jerry Brown is one of our most beloved therapists at Sober Living by the Sea. He is also active in speaking to state and national therapeutic organizations including:
California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT)
American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT)
California Psychiatric Association
National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC)
Dr. Brown specializes in the treatment of our dually diagnosed addiction clients and is the author of Militant Parenting: A Survival Guide for Parents with Problem Kids. In early 2009, he presented a four-week lecture series on family relationships at a Sober Living by the Sea event.
Kevin McCauley, "The Addiction Doctor"
Dr. Kevin McCauley is an inspirational pioneer in the field of recovery who facilitates Sober Living by the Sea's monthly Family Counseling Program. Kevin also regularly lectures for our extended network of staff and associates, and is probably the most recognizable addiction industry expert who is a proponent for the disease model of addiction.
Charlie Graham, B.S., M.Ed., CADC II
Charlie Graham is a gifted counselor who is the director of our highly regarded Celebrate Recovery Christian Rehab program. Charlie gives lectures and presentations regularly to various organizations on topics like "addiction and domestic violence" and "anxiety and addiction."
