Jerry Brown Lecture Series on Family Relationships
In February and March of 2009, Sober Living by the Sea hosted a free weekly lecture series during which Dr. Jerry Brown talked about the dynamics of family relationships. Dr. Brown is one of the most beloved addiction therapists at Sober Living by the Sea and is known for his engaging and humorous educational lectures. Topics covered during this recent event included:

• Fair Fighting - Suggested Rules of Engagement With Loved Ones

Many clinicians participated in the lecture series to earn continuing education units, alongside many attendees from the Sober Living by the Sea alumni network and the recovery community at large.

Heartbeat of Recovery Community Event
Sober Living by the Sea teamed up with several other premier drug rehab centers to host a fun afternoon lecture/workshop event during which participants learned about a variety of recovery themed topics like forgiveness and visualization, among others.

Dr. Daniel Amen Educational Luncheon
Dr. Daniel Amen, the well-known brain enhancement expert and bestselling author, gave a rousing lecture at Sober Living by the Sea's Costa Mesa Lecture Facility about his specialty: using SPECT brain imaging technology to enhance addiction treatment.

This is a cutting-edge topic in the field of addiction treatment and Dr. Amen is a true leader in studies of brain imaging and how it can be used in the proactive treatment of addiction and other behavioral, emotional, or mental disorders.

Clients at our drug and alcohol treatment centers are offered the services that Dr. Daniel Amen provides and many take advantage of the SPECT brain imaging as part of their treatment program.

Dr. Kevin McCauley Educational Luncheon at the Balboa Bay Club
Dr. Kevin McCauley, one of the world's most renowned addiction doctors, has been a pioneer in treating addiction as a disease for many years. In 2008, he shared his latest findings with other addictions professionals in a lecture that he facilitated at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, CA.

Kevin McCauley has been very successful in proving wrong the "choice" argument, which is the most commonly voiced argument against the classification of addiction as a disease. This day was no different.
